Sergey Semidovskiy (Russian: Сергей Семидовский) was a Russian police captain who killed five people and wounded ten others in Yaroslavsky, Primorsky Krai, Russia on August 25, 2002.

Semidovskiy tried to kill his wife by shooting her either in 1994 or 1997.[1][2]

In the evening of August 24 Semidovskiy, who was off-duty at the time, had a quarrel with other customers at the local cafe/bar, then drove back home. At about 1 a.m. he returned to the cafe armed with a Saiga carbine/shotgun, opened fire, first on the porch killing two, wounding two, then inside, then at people in the street nearby, killing four people on the spot. Youngest victims was a 15-year-old girl, Four people were killed at the scene, 11 wounded, two critically, one, Alexander Kuznetsov, was shot in kidney, spleen and lung, died on August 27.[3] [4] [5]

The 40-year-old opened fire at people in and outside a bar with a Saiga carbine, after an argument with several customers. The drunk gunman then shot himself in the chest and was brought to a hospital in Khorol, where he tried again unsuccessfully to commit suicide and eventually died of cardiac arrest on August 27.[6][7][8][9]

As a consequence of the shooting Colonel Lebedev, head of the Khorolsky District department of internal affairs, as well as Lieutenant-Colonel Kurgeyev, head of the personnel and training department, and Lieutenant-Colonel Kotyshev, head of public security police, were dismissed, and disciplinary measures were taken against several other members of the local police who allowed him to remain in the police force after the attempted murder of his wife.[1][10][11]


Among those killed was:

  • Alexander Kuznetsov (Александр Кузнецов), 33, died on August 27[12]

Among the wounded was Maksim Esipov (Максим Есипов), 17, shot in the leg.
