On the morning of July 13, 1978 a Filipino soldier shot dead six of his comrades and wounded six others at an army camp near Marantao, Lanao del Sur, Philippines. The man, a member of the 251st battalion, afterwards committed suicide in a nearby village.[1]

The following day a soldier reportedly killed four people with an M-16 assault rifle in the southern Philippines. It is unknown if this is the same case, or something unrelated.[2]
