The 21-year-old, who had shot the villagers with a G3 assault rifle, was arrested afterwards and charged with seven counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. He appeared in court in April 1981, where he admitted to the shooting, but denied to have had any intention to kill people. According to differing reports the victims were either all civilians, or included five policemen.[1][2][3]
