After ceaseless questioning Prokopetch's wife Mira told him that she was courted by the majority of the male villagers. Enraged he waited until the village meeting ended and then shot from ambush at the suspected lovers of his wife. Mira later related that she was innocent and had only confessed to the affairs to escape further torture.
