Johnny Jooste was a South African security guard who killed seven people at a farm in Ceres, South Africa on February 20, 2000. He was arrested after a day-long manhunt and sentenced to 38 years in prison on November 15, 2001.

MurdersEdit

Described as trigger happy, worked as a security guard. 9mm pistol, killed his wife, two of his three children at Ou Muur farm owned by Louis Milne, former soldier, then grabbed a farm two-way radio and escaped into mountains near the farm, was searched by police during the night, killed all of his victims with a single shot to the head, 13-year-old daughter Ruanne survived, angry, because he believed his family wanted to destry his marriage, also wanted to kill his nephew Wynand van der Kolf, 21, who had fled the farm when Jooste started shooting

first shot his wife, and the Swarts, then the children inside the farmhouse, left alive Marthinius Isaacs and his wife Petronella, telling them 'I am leaving you as a witness to what I have done here'."

At 4 p.m. contacted farm owner Louise Milne via radio, telling him: "I am looking for Wynand. I want to kill him." and "I can see you are looking for me but you won't find me."

searched by 30 police officers and trackers, police dogs, police task force dispatched to area via helicopter.[4]

The next morning hid under a bush at Skurweberg Secondary School and at 11 a.m. surrendered himself to principal Abie Klink, asked him to call police, handed him his pistol. Shooting started at about 7 a.m. after an argument with his wife, was then arrested and taken to police station in Prince Alfred Hamlet[1]

AftermathEdit

Appeared in Ceres Magistrate's Court on February 22, 2000, was charged with seven counts of murder.

On October 16, 2000 case was postponed to November 15.[2]

Pleaded guilty to seven counts of murder. Told court murders result of constant taunts by in-laws and their interference in his marriage. On November 15, 2001 was sentenced to 38 years in prison. seven 20-year sentences, with 17 years running concurrently. was also declared Jooste unfit to possess a firearm.
