On May 16, 1890 twelve people were killed and at least four others wounded by a house boy of the assistant resident in Bonthain, Dutch East Indies.

At about 6 p.m. that day the man caught his wife in flagrante with another man. Infuriated he grabbed a weapon and first killed his wife and her lover, and then killed six other people and wounded at least eight others, four of whom died the following day. He was eventually overpowered and killed by guards of the assistant resident and natives.[1][2][3][4]
