Avi was an Indonesian carpenter who wounded 15 people in Lambangsari, a village near Cilegon, Dutch East Indies on March 24, 1927.[1][2][3]

Avi, who was said to have been mentally ill, had been in prison for a few months one year prior to the attack. At about 1 p.m. on the aforementioned day he took an axe and attacked people in the village, leaving 15 of them injured, five seriously, and also set fire to three buildings. He then gravely wounded himself in an attempt to commit suicide and was subsequenttly killed by one of his brothers with a golok. Among the wounded were his mother, his brother, two other women, one with life-threatening injuries, a six-year-old child, as well as three other children.[4][5][6][7]
