During the night from November 15 to November 16, 1986 a German teacher identified only as Robert Kerby K. killed two people and wounded five to ten others with a piece of wood at the Mulleriyawa psychiatric hospital in Angoda, Sri Laka. He was later captured by police naked and shouting on a highway near the capital, and brought to the central prison in Colombo.

The 40-year-old, who was from Schmallenberg and had lived with a native family in the area for a week, reportedly had an abrupt change in behaviour. He was arrested on November 15 when running around naked near a hotel and brought to the mental hospital, where he was put on sedatives. Around midnight he got up from his bed, grabbed a wooden plank and attacked the 70 other patients in his ward. He was put on trial, but an examination found him to be mentally ill and his lawyer requested his extradition to Germany.[1][2][3]
