Shooting Edit

At an unknown time before 9:30, Adam Lanza shot his mother Nancy Lanza four times in the head with a .22 bolt action rifle.[1] He then placed everything inside his car into white garbage bags [2], and drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School. Lanza was armed with a Bushmaster XM-15 rifle with two magazines taped together, a 10mm Glock 20 handgun in a "drop down" holster, and a 9mm Sig Sauer P226 handgun in his pants pocket.[3] In addition, a Saiga 12 gauge shotgun and two ten round magazines was left inside of the car.[4] Lanza was also carrying eight extra AR-15 magazines and ten extra handgun magazines, which were contained in the pockets of his vest and pants.[5] He wore a olive colored vest, a black boonie hat, black cargo pants, and a black polo shirt [6]. He had yellow earplugs inserted into his ears.[7] Lanza ejected a single round onto the ground, and approached the school building's entrance where he fired eight rounds into a glass window.[8] He then entered the school, and encountered 3 staff members who went to investigate the noise. He fired six or seven shots, killing 2 and wounding the 3rd . A 4th staff member down the hall was grazed by a single shot to the foot.[9] Lanza briefly entered the nurse's office before quickly exiting, before firing ten rounds at the bodies of the two deceased staff members.[10] He also fired a single 10mm round at the direction of room 9, before proceeding to enter classroom 10.[11] He fired 4 shots at a staff member, before reloading. While reloading a student yelled for his classmates to run, which several of them did.[12] After reloading his weapon, Lanza shot the student once in the forehead, and fired thirty rounds at the room's remaining occupants. 3 students and another staff member are killed, and a 4th student is mortally wounded by a single shot to the neck.[13] Lanza then reloaded his magazine once more and ejected a single round. He exited the room and made his way to classroom 8. The two staff members inside had ordered their students to huddle together inside the room's restroom. Lanza fired eighty rounds inside of the classroom [14], reloading three times, killing 14 students and 2 staff members. A 15th student was later pronounced dead at hospital.[15] Lanza then exited the classroom and ejected four rounds from his rifle before discarding the magazine. He then returned to classroom 10 and fired fifteen more rounds at the classroom's window, before ejecting the magazine. [16]Lanza then retrieved his Glock 20 handgun and ejected four pistol rounds on the floor, before fatally shooting himself once in the lower rear portion of his head.[17]
